Mine was facing down as well. I used a long flat blade screw driver at a bit of an angle to get on it. Once you start to get it loose you can move it around a bit to finish up. Make sure you put a bit of lube on the new coupler when going back on. As a practice I never do that but I found it a must on this. I never figured out why, but a week or so later I had a 19 non PP on my lift at work and it seemed like that area on the rear turbo was wide open as compared to my 13 PP. That brings up another point, if you're working on jackstands, get them as high as possible to buy yourself some working room.
