An OEM drain plug (not provided by an exploding differential) would have been nice in the MTX too!

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

This is an old topic, and I am not sure if this has been discussed before. But researching about doing a PTU fluid change I cam across this in the owners manual.
The Power Transfer Unit (PTU) does not require any normal scheduled maintenance. Do not check or change the PTU lubricant unless the unit has been submerged in water or shows signs of leakage
The Power Transfer Unit (PTU) in Taurus SHOTM performance package vehicles is electronically monitored and notifies the driver of required service by displaying the message Change AWD Power Transfer Unit Lube in the information display. The PTU lube will be more likely to require a fluid change if the vehicle has experienced extended periods of extreme/severe duty cycle driving. Do not check or change the PTU lubricant unless the unit has been submerged in water, shows signs of leakage or a message indicating required service is displayed. Contact your authorized dealer for service and to reset the PTU lube life monitor.

There is a PTU lube life monitor on the SHO PP(I'm sorry that sounds kinda funny)? Does this mean that there is an actual drain on the PP? Any insight would be great.

I realize that others have posted their concerns with the change of the fluid in the PTU. Hence my desicion to chamge mine, i was unaware that there is any difference in the PTU between PP and non PP cars. According to the manual the PP cars are the only ones that you are supposed to change the fluid and it is monitored by the computer. I wonder what the PID is for that?

I have seen several examples of transmission and rear ends originally listed as lifetime fluids. Or like the owners manual states regular service not needed. Then after a few years when the car is out of Warranty and revised maintenance schedule shows up.  Not sure if they do this as a selling point for a new car. Or as a way to generate parts sales in the future on big ticket items.  One example was on my W12 powered Volkswagen Phaeton the transmission was originally listed as filled for life. Then after a few years that got changed to replacing the fluid every 40.000 miles

Im changing it this weekend, ill see if i can get it tested. Has anyone done this on a 13 or 14? With PP Just wondering if they have a drain valve? Last time i was at my dealer they mentioned they have only seen one with a drain plug. And this was on a new unit they changed out due to failure.

I'm doing mine this weekend too. My understanding is the 13's have a drain plug, but you still have to pump in the new oil through a plug at the top. I'll get under it tomorrow and give it a shot.

the PP PTU has an extra cooler so there is curiosity to see if the fluid will look better with the PP package.

I can send mine off if someone gives me the source and reasoning.

IHeartGroceries

The unit is water cooled on the PP, I believe, which doesn't necessitate additional capacity.

Same ridiculously low quantity throughout.

The Flex guys have issues with their PTUs as well, right?
