No brakes

Its 2015, my car is a 2011 modern car with almost every feature available to any car. Why in the_ _ _ L did Ford not put wear indicators on brakes?

Before I heard any noise, already metal to metal. So no time to search and wait for brakes. So here is what I used from local Autozone.

1. Duralast gold rotors: Front and rear
http://www.autozone.com/brakes-and-traction-control/brake-rotor-front/duralast-gold-brake-rotor-front/ford/taurus-sho/2011/6-cylinders-t-3-5l-sfi-turbo-dohc/466941/

2. Duralast Ceramic brake pads: Front and rear

FYI,
Why does my 2011 SHO have front pads from a 2013 SHO? Only difference is retainer clip to hold brakes in place. But since I was desparate to stop, I went ahead with the 2013. Took a couple trips to find them but dang.

I guess they updated the brake pads cause they are all the same part # from 10-14 SHO AG1Z-2001-F is the oem pad,i  http://www.tascaparts.com/ford/taurus/ag1z2001f/2011-year/sho-trim/3-5l-v6-gas-engine/brakes-cat/front-brakes-scat/?part_name=front-pads .  Its a good point show that our cars dont have brake pad sensors,on mt 13 SHO on the left side of the dash under information can be obtained brake, fluids and oil percentage status, but in regards to the pads, dont know if it will inform me if they are low or in need to change, cause still have the oem at 22k.

That "Brakes - OK" check means nothing about the wear indicator. Just the braking system itself (Traction control, ESC, ABS, etc...). My brakes were fully metal to metal in the front before I knew what that gravelly dragging noise was. Until I put EBC RedStuff pads in the front I hated my brakes. Much better now but I'm planning to retrofit the 2013+ booster and master cylinder this spring.

What pads and rotors did you have prior to this? Please keep us updated how these Auto Zone parts are actually perfoming compared to your other or oem set up, and if they were the a good investment vs aftermarket like power stop or ebc....

Do a little preventative maintenance, take off the front wheel off once or twice a yearand check between your calipers to see how low your pads are,or if your at the dealer forv an oil change have them do a multi-point inspection which includes checking your brakes,it will save you money on having to replace not only the pads but roters also, and could prevent future injury to yourself and others by having them looked at and not waiting the last minute, hope it helps someone from headaches and aggravation.

I think all the cars have the brake system check. It can be used to gauge brake wear only if brake fluid goes low and that becomes indication of wear. Pistons fully extended.

As for what pads/rotors I had before, I dunno. I bought the car with 49k miles. It has had at least some form of brake service. Evidenced by the rotor torq screw was stripped out. So I can only assume factory brakes were reinstalled. But the pads that came off were from 2013 SHO. So does anyone else's car have pads from 2013 or did someone just install wrong pads on my car? They are exactly the same except for retainer clip on rotors.

Thus far I have not leaned on brakes. Just a couple trips to store. I can feel more firmer bite on the pad to rote contact. But ole girl getting rode hard this weekend. So I will have a better feel for them. Brake fade will be something I check hard on. And part of the selling point for these was I get FREE lifetime replacement on pads, and 3 years on rotors. So next brake job, ALL free parts. Plus they're local to me.

The brake pads have been updated with the same part# for 10-14 SHO as indicated on my first post, good luck with the new pads and rotors and make sure to to break them nice and easy the first couple of hundred miles, did you perform the bedding procedure.

The Duralast pads do list a mechanical wear sensor, so maybe now you can enjoy the Banshees when it comes time?  Ceramic pads chew up rotors, so I'd keep an eye on them for replacement before the 3 yr warranty is up.  BTW, I see from a search on the Interwebz that Ford has not been putting on a mechanical bp wear sensor for quite some time.  Seems the European cars have had electronic sensors since at least the 80's.  Z, have them on your BMW?

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Not sure where you saw about a mechanical sensor. Unless I just looked passed it. But I am very sensitive to EVERY detail of how all of my cars behave. So generally I will catch low brakes very normal driving, pedal travel, steering feel and of course noise.

As for ceramics on rotors at this point not an issue Because they are going to warranty replace rotors for 3 years and pads for lifetime. So the plan is since Autozone no longer turns rotors, when I take rotors to them they will have to replace since they cannot service nor warranty another companies "turning" of rotors. So Before 3 years over, I will replace brakes at least once Im sure!

My 2001 Bmw has brake pad sensors as SHOdded mentioned, very effective in letting you know when its time to change them and prevent costly repairs, the only issue is wiring the sytem and being able to connect it to the ECU and then it can alert you.http://www.101projects.com/BMW/Projects/051/images/DSC03750.JPG  hopefully they will update the needed sensors.

First real panic stop with nu brakes over weekend. I must say they feel much more gooderer than the stock brakes. Car was hauled down from roughly 80 mph to dead stop. Didn't feel any brake fade. Don't know about repeated panic stops, I guess that will come in time. SO FAR, SO GOOD!
