Engine ground wire

After having issues with my other car,had a chance to look at mine and just after a year look at the corrosion buildup,the entire ECU and F.I system works on this engine ground wire,a bad corroded ground can cause performance in almost any circuit voltage drop and can cause hesitation,so the best thing to do is grab a fine sandpaper and clean the corrosion at both edges,after finished add bome dielectric grease,hope this helps someone,and never ground anything to this wire or the battery.

This actually raises a good point.  It was common practice in the fbody world to replace the "big 3" with an upgraded cable size:
+12V Battery to +12V Junction Box
+12V Junction Box to Alternator
Battery Ground to Chassis


Would a similar upgrade be warranted on our vehicles?

A lower gauge wire should not void warranty of any kind,I would go with a 2-4 gauge wire compared to the thinner factory ground.

It might help, but only if the number of strands in the wire is greater than stock.  Electricity travels on conductor surfaces.. So less heat and better conduction with more strands in the braid because of decreased resistance.

Funny warranty was mentioned, I actually had a service advisor tell me that due to the "upgraded" ground wires on my Ram in the past it could void my warranty.

Good point, ZSHO.  Basic, simple maintenance with big payoff in the long run.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!
